Sikh Lobby of the UK Parliament
A Sikh Lobby of the UK Parliament has been organised for Wednesday 15 July following the massive spike in Anti-Sikh hate crimes and right wing public hostility towards Sikhs since mid-May.
Message your MP nowThe lobby will also be an opportunity to address widespread institutional ignorance and discrimination across public bodies regarding the sacred Kirpan.
The lobby is taking place in the Central Lobby of Parliament between 11:30am and 1:00pm and coincides with Keir Starmer’s final questions as Prime Minister.
Please do not miss the opportunity to attend and raise your Sikh voice.
Aim to arrive between 11am and 12 noon in the main Parliament building to allow time to get through security.
The lobby will be followed by a briefing meeting in a large Committee Room (to be confirmed) between 1-3pm in the main Parliament building where the Sikh Network will formally present to law makers the results from their recent spot survey on Anti-Sikh hate crimes since mid-May and the direct consequences of this spike in hate on British Sikh families.
This recent experience demonstrates a Statutory Code of Practice on Sikh articles of faith is long-overdue. It is now crucial for government to deliver this to resolve widespread institutional ignorance and discrimination across public sector bodies regarding the sacred Kirpan and to ensure that the law is respected and is applied fairly and without discrimination.
A link will be shared on Monday to allow you to write and invite your MP to take part and address three specific actions on your behalf. It will take only 1-minute to write to your MP using this link.
Please ensure the Management Committee at your local Gurdwara make regular announcements encouraging Sangat to attend the lobby on Wednesday 15 July and write to their local MP using this page.
